Spotify to Introduce Music Videos in US and Canada, Extend Service to All Artists Soon

Spotify has recently rolled out music videos for their Premium users in the U.S. and Canada, with plans to expand to a more comprehensive selection in the future. The move comes after the streaming service introduced music videos in beta to nearly 100 markets the previous year, featuring artists such as Ariana Grande, Olivia Dean, BABYMONSTER, Addison Rae, and others.

The importance of video content in music marketing has increased significantly with the rise of platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. Music videos deepen the connection between fans and artists, with statistics showing that when fans discover a track with a video, they are more likely to stream it again and share it. This trend is particularly evident among super listeners, who subsequently stream the artist even more actively in the following months.

In addition to music videos, Spotify offers a range of marketing tools for artists, including Countdown Pages, Canvas, and Clips, all aimed at enhancing the fan experience and promoting artists. Spotify has indicated that while music videos are currently in beta, they plan to make them available to all artists in the future, allowing for a more immersive discovery experience for fans and generating additional revenue for publishers and songwriters.

Spotify’s Head of Music, Charlie Hellman, emphasized the impact of music videos on connecting with fans, stating that music videos often solidify a listener’s interest in an artist by combining visuals with the song itself. The introduction of music videos for Premium listeners in the U.S. and Canada aims to provide fans with a richer discovery experience and support artists and the industry at large.

To watch music videos on Spotify, Premium subscribers in the U.S., Canada, and other beta markets can open the app on various devices and select a supported track to switch to video mode. The music video will seamlessly transition from the song, allowing fans to enjoy a full-screen experience on mobile devices by turning them to landscape mode or switching back to audio mode for background listening.

Fans can explore additional videos, including live and cover performances, by scrolling down to view Related Music Videos or visiting an artist’s profile. Playlists like 90s Video Hits, Hip-Hop Throwbacks, and Latin Party Vibes offer fans a curated selection based on genre and era. The addition of music videos on Spotify is expected to enrich the listening experience for fans and provide artists with a valuable platform to showcase their visual storytelling alongside their music.
