Red Hot Chili Peppers Bassist Announces Debut Solo Album Featuring Radiohead and Nick Cave
Flea, the acclaimed bassist from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, has exciting news for fans of his music. His highly anticipated debut solo album, titled Honora, is set to release on Mar. 27 under Nonesuch Records. Collaborating with iconic voices in the music industry, Flea has brought in Thom Yorke from Radiohead and Nick Cave to lend their vocal talents to the project. The album features a mix of six original songs along with four covers that showcase Flea’s diverse musical influences.
One of the standout tracks on Honora is “Traffic Lights,” a song co-written by Flea and saxophonist Josh Johnson. After the initial session, Flea had the idea to invite Thom Yorke to join the project. Yorke not only contributed vocals but also played piano and synths on the track. Reflecting on the collaboration, Flea shared with Flood Magazine, “Just knowing him, I thought it would be a rhythm and a sensibility that he would relate to. And I was right, he did.”
Throughout the album, Flea displays his musical versatility by not only playing bass but also incorporating trumpet into the mix. Joining him on this musical journey are talented musicians like Anna Butterss on bass, Jeff Parker on guitar, Deantoni Parks on drums, Mauro Refosco handling percussion, and Nate Walcott from Bright Eyes making a special appearance.
This solo venture for Flea marks a return to his musical roots. Before finding fame with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Flea’s musical journey began with studying jazz trumpet. A dream he shared while filming My Own Private Idaho in 1991 was to make an instrumental album filled with infectious grooves and captivating melodies.
Fans around the world can catch Flea live on his upcoming tour starting on May 7 at Thalia Hall in Chicago. The tour will take him through cities like Toronto, Montreal, New York, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles. European fans can also look forward to shows in Berlin, Amsterdam, London, and Paris, with the tour concluding on May 28 at Alhambra in Paris. Tickets will be available for purchase starting Jan. 23, with a special pre-sale for European fans beginning on Jan. 20.
