Kid Rock’s ‘Rock the Country’ festival cancels South Carolina show due to several performers withdrawing
The music festival “Rock the Country,” featuring headliners such as Creed, Shinedown, Brantley Gilbert, and Ludacris, faced cancellation for its South Carolina stop due to multiple artists dropping out. The event, originally scheduled for two nights at the Anderson Sports & Entertainment Center in Anderson, SC, was set to take place in July. However, the Anderson County officials were informed that the festival decided to cancel the gig without providing a specific reason. County Administrator Rusy Burns mentioned that at least one band expressed concerns over the festival’s politically charged nature.
The cancellation disappointed Anderson County, as the event promised economic benefits. Despite this setback, the county was actively seeking performers for an unrelated concert in April. Established by Kid Rock, or Robert James Richie, in 2024, the annual festival aimed to celebrate the United States’ 250th birthday with a multi-state tour encompassing eight cities. This year’s tour would have spanned from May to September, culminating in a final show in Hamburg, NY.
Speaking on the festival’s significance, the tour’s website highlighted its role in fostering community spirit and commemorating America’s legacy over 250 years. The festival served as a gathering place for people from all walks of life to enjoy music and camaraderie. Shinedown, the intended top act for one of the nights, had made an early decision to withdraw from the event, citing a commitment to unity through music and a desire to avoid contributing to societal divisions.
Ludacris and Morgan Wade, among other artists, had also opted out of the concert series prior to its cancellation. Ludacris, initially named as a headliner, claimed a misunderstanding was the reason for his involvement. Despite the early excitement and lineup, the festival faced challenges due to various artists withdrawing from the event.
