Girls Rocked the Great Wrexham Event with their Festival Performance
Wrexham AFC recently hosted an inaugural girls football festival at The Rock stadium. The event aimed to inspire and engage the next generation of female football players and fans and took place before a crucial Adran Premier League match against Briton Ferry Llansawel.
A total of 96 players from local grassroots clubs, including Brickfield, Brymbo Lodge, Buckley Town, Cefn Mawr Rangers, Lex, and Penycae, participated in the U11s/U12s festival. Alongside these players were attendees from the club’s Street Dragons sessions, making it a diverse and inclusive event.
The festival featured a round-robin tournament where teams competed before coming together to form a guard of honor as the main teams walked out onto the field. The Young Leaders of Wrexham AFC played a vital role in organizing and executing the festival, also assisting during the women’s match later that day.
The club expressed their gratitude to all the teams, players, and families who contributed to making the event a huge success, highlighting the positive work being done within the local grassroots football community. In other football news, Wrexham faced Cardiff City in the FAW U13s Academy League and suffered a 5-2 defeat at home. Despite the loss, Florence Hutchinson managed to score two goals for Wrexham, while Amelia Phillips contributed to Connah’s Quay Nomads’ 3-0 victory over Caernarfon Town.
The action continued in the U12s Academy League, with Airbus securing a 3-0 win against the FAW U14s team, and their U13s side defeating the FAW U16s team 3-1. Meanwhile, the U12s League Cup saw Hawarden Park Diamonds U11s emerge victorious against Lex XI in a nail-biting penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regular time.
Individual performances also stood out in league play, with players like Frankie Evans, Ren James-Roberts, Ella Morrell, and Lucy Williams showcasing their talent. Notable victories included Rhos Aelwyd’s 8-0 win against Chirk Youth in the Blue League, and Mynydd Isa’s 4-2 triumph over Corwen in the Red League. Additionally, Hawarden Park U14s dominated Mynydd Isa 8-0 in the U15s’ Red League, with Mia Pryce securing a hat-trick.
The U17s’ Blue League saw Berriew narrowly defeat Brymbo Lodge 2-1, with Elyse Richards putting in a noteworthy performance. These results highlight the competitive and exciting nature of grassroots football leagues in the region, providing a platform for young players to develop their skills and passion for the sport.
