New video shows suspect allegedly following woman in Metro assault case
A recent video implicates a man accused of harassing women on Metro trains by following a woman to a new bar in D.C. Bryan Betancur, a Jan. 6 insurrectionist who has been charged with multiple assault offenses in Virginia and the District for reportedly touching women’s hair on the Metro, recording the acts, and sharing them on social media, is currently out on bond.
Amanda Moore, a journalist, recorded the video outside a new popup bar at 21st and K Streets Northwest and shared it with News4 reporters. Moore claims that Betancur has been stalking and harassing her for a few years, though she has not yet filed a restraining order against him.
Betancur’s legal trouble began when he was charged with assault and battery in Arlington County after sharing a video of himself Touching a woman’s hair on a Metro train on March 1. He was subsequently released on bond, rearrested, then released again after another incident on a train in D.C. on March 2, which he also recorded and shared on social media.
Despite claiming his innocence and denouncing feminism as a “cancer” to the News4 cameras, Betancur continues to be a source of distress to Moore. She alleges that Betancur has been violating a restraining order taken out against him by another person while alleging that he is confident he will face minimal consequences for his actions.
Although Moore states that Betancur did not break any laws during their recent encounter in D.C., she expressed concern that he followed her down the street, suggesting that his behavior is escalating. Another individual, who Moore knows, has filed a restraining order against Betancur due to repeated violations.
Betancur will appear in D.C. court on April 8 and Arlington County court in May. As part of his ongoing legal proceedings, he has been restricted from using social media or riding the Metro.
With Betancur’s court dates approaching, the legal system aims to address the concerning behavior exhibited by this individual, whose actions have caused distress to multiple women. It is crucial to monitor the situation and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent further harassment or assault by repeat offenders like Betancur.
