“Monstress” cartoon series in development at Amazon by experienced animator from One Piece

Amazon MGM Studios is reportedly in the process of developing an adult animated series based on the popular comic book series “Monstress.” The series will be spearheaded by Steven Maeda, a co-creator and former showrunner of Netflix’s “One Piece.”

The official description of the potential Amazon Prime Video show unveils a narrative set in an Asian-inspired fantasy world. It revolves around a young woman who harbors a literal monster within her. Driven by the desire to comprehend her past and seek retribution for her mother’s tragic demise, she embarks on a mission. Throughout her journey, she is accompanied by a diverse and intriguing cast, including a talking cat and a hybrid fox/human girl. Together, they find themselves in the midst of a fierce war between human forces and otherworldly beings. “Monstress” explores the profound question of how individuals can transcend their inner demons and monstrous traits.

The acclaimed “Monstress” comic book series, penned by Marjorie Liu and illustrated by Sana Takeda, has received numerous accolades since its inception.
