Rock music enthusiasts have something to be excited about, as Melbourne-based band Fancy Weapon has announced the release of their debut album along with the drop of a new single ‘Squid’. The band is a supergroup of talented antipodean indie musicians whose combined prowess creates something truly remarkable. With iconic artists like Mick Turner from Dirty Three, Claire Birchall, Joel Silbersher, and Guy Maddison, Fancy Weapon packs a punch with their musical pedigree.

Mick Turner, a legend in the local music scene known for his work with Dirty Three and Mess Esque, joins forces with Claire Birchall, a seasoned artist with 30 years of music-making experience in Melbourne. Birchall, a driving force in Kim Salmon’s Smoked Salmon project, showcases her drumming and vocal skills on the upcoming album. Joel Silbersher and Guy Maddison, both with robust musical backgrounds, add depth and energy to the band’s lineup, each bringing their unique flair to Fancy Weapon’s music.

‘Squid’, the band’s first single, is a whirlwind of sound, characterized by gritty guitar riffs and unabashed energy. The track unleashes a raw, chaotic vibe that showcases the band’s ability to deliver a fierce performance. Claire Birchall’s captivating vocals provide an anchor amidst the frenzied instrumentation, making ‘Squid’ a visceral experience for listeners. The accompanying video, featuring live footage by Bec Birchall, adds visual depth to the intense track.

The single ‘Squid’ is available across various platforms, offering fans a taste of what’s to come from Fancy Weapon. Their self-titled debut album, set for release on 19 June via Poison City Records, promises to be a high-octane musical journey. Recorded in a single session at Finn Keane’s Head Gap studios, the album captures the band’s electric energy and chemistry. A mix of nostalgia and innovation, Fancy Weapon’s album is engineered by Finn Keane and produced collectively by the band.

Despite facing a studio fire shortly after completing the album, Fancy Weapon persevered, finalizing the mixing process at another location under the name Head Gap. The band’s resilience and dedication shine through in their music, reflecting a spirit of creative passion and commitment. With ‘Squid’ serving as a precursor to their debut album, Fancy Weapon is poised to make a powerful and lasting impact on the rock music scene. Fans can look forward to a bold and exhilarating musical experience with the release of Fancy Weapon’s highly anticipated debut album.
