Taj Mahal debuts new single “Wild About My Lovin”
Taj Mahal has recently announced the release of his latest single, “Wild About My Lovin’,” which is set to be featured on his upcoming album, “Time,” scheduled for release on May 1 through Resonatin’ Records/Thirty Tigers. This new single showcases Taj Mahal’s signature breezy swinging style that transcends various genres like soul, roots, folk, reggae, and blues, highlighting his immense talent as a singer and songwriter.
The album’s title track, “Time,” is a previously unheard Bill Withers composition that was initially recorded as an unreleased demo. Thanks to the efforts of Taj’s close friend and music industry executive, Steve Berkowitz, and with the blessing of Bill and Marcia Withers, the song was brought to Taj and his band for recording. Recorded in 2010 alongside his longtime collaborators, the Phantom Blues Band, the album “Time” captures a musical language that has been refined over decades. Featuring Tony Braunagel on drums, Larry Fulcher on bass, Johnny Lee Schell on guitar, along with additional musicians like Jon Cleary and Mick Weaver, the album showcases a blend of reggae rhythms, New Orleans grooves, country blues, and Latin influences that reflect the band’s unique chemistry.
Taj Mahal, a legendary figure in American roots music, has had a remarkable six-decade career that spans over 40 albums and multiple GRAMMY wins. Renowned for his genre-defying music that explores the deep cultural connections of blues across continents, Taj Mahal has influenced countless artists, from The Rolling Stones to Bonnie Raitt. With accolades like back-to-back GRAMMY wins for albums like “Señor Blues” and “Shoutin’ in Key,” Taj Mahal continues to push the boundaries of blues music while remaining true to his roots.
“Time” not only reflects the musical worlds that Taj Mahal has inhabited throughout his career but also offers a fresh perspective for a new generation of listeners. As Ruthie Foster aptly states in her liner notes for Taj’s album, “turn it up — this is deep-groove, grown-folks music from a band that still plays like the night is young.” The album’s tracklist includes songs like “Life of Love,” “Crazy About A Jukebox,” “Talkin’ Blues,” and more, providing a rich and dynamic musical journey for fans of Taj Mahal’s music.
With its rich blend of musical influences and masterful performances, Taj Mahal’s upcoming album “Time” promises to be a captivating musical experience that showcases the enduring talent and innovation of this iconic artist.
