Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Sade, Oasis, Wu-Tang Clan, and Luther Vandross inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its latest inductees, including music legends Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Billy Idol, Queen Latifah, Oasis, Sade, and Joy Division/New Order, along with first-time nominees Wu-Tang Clan and the late Luther Vandross. These iconic artists were revealed during the broadcast of “American Idol,” and their induction signifies their lasting impact on the music industry.
Phil Collins, who is already a member of the Hall of Fame as part of Genesis, has not only been successful with the band but also as a solo artist, with hits such as “In the Air Tonight” and “One More Night.” Sade, known for her soul-jazz vocals, has produced soft rock classics like “Smooth Operator” and “The Sweetest Taboo.” Wu-Tang Clan, hailed as rap innovators since their groundbreaking debut album “Enter the Wu-Tang,” have left an indelible mark on the genre.
Iron Maiden, known for their contributions to the British heavy metal scene, especially with iconic albums like “The Number of the Beast,” have finally earned their induction. Luther Vandross, a prolific artist with over 25 million albums sold and hits like “Here and Now” and “Any Love,” continues to influence artists like Kendrick Lamar and SZA.
In addition to these renowned artists, the Hall of Fame will also honor the post-punk pioneers Joy Division and New Order, as well as the Britpop sensation Oasis, which has reunited Noel and Liam Gallagher. Billy Idol, known for his punk-infused pop hits like “White Wedding” and “Rebel Yell,” brings his distinctive sound to the Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony will take place on November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with a televised broadcast on ABC and Disney+ in December. Artists who were nominated but didn’t make the cut this year include Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, INXS, and others. The Hall of Fame also recognizes individuals and groups under special committee categories like early influence, musical excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award.
