Voivod, the Canadian metal band, is set to release a unique live album titled “Symphonique” on June 5 through Century Media Records. This album stands out from typical concert recordings as it features the band collaborating with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra across 12 tracks spanning 73 minutes of music.

The recording took place at the Grand Theatre in Quebec City on June 4, 2025, and composer Hugo Begin was responsible for arranging the pieces, blending the raw power of metal with the grandeur of orchestral music. Drummer and founding member Michel “Away” Langevin expressed his excitement for this project, calling it a longtime dream turned reality. He also shared plans to recreate this experience in 2027 with the Orchestre symphonique du Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, bringing the performance back to the region where Voïvod originated in 1983.

Since their formation in 1983, Voivod has been a prominent figure in the metal scene. Their 2022 album, “Synchro Anarchy,” earned them a Juno Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Album in 2023. This record made waves on the German charts, reaching No. 7, and also gained recognition in Switzerland, Austria, and the Netherlands.

Following the release of “Symphonique,” Voivod is scheduled to tour in Europe and the UK in June. They have also announced a special performance on Jan. 30, 2027, at the Municipale Palace Theatre in Chicoutimi, where they will be joined by the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Symphony Orchestra.

Michel “Away” Langevin has expressed his desire to expand this unique musical collaboration globally, showcasing the fusion of metal and orchestral music with different local orchestras. “Symphonique” will be available in various formats, including CD, gatefold 2LP on black, yellow, or orange vinyl, and digital download. Tickets for the 2027 Chicoutimi show are currently on sale, offering fans the opportunity to witness this one-of-a-kind performance live.
