Belfast-based band Makeshift Art Bar recently shared their latest single, ‘Discipline,’ as a precursor to their upcoming EP ‘Marionette,’ which is scheduled for release on June 26, 2026, through Heist or Hit (Westside Cowboy). Known for their energetic and fearless performances, the quartet has been making waves in the underground music scene with their unique blend of post-punk, grunge, electronica, sludge metal, hardcore, and art rock.

‘Discipline’ delves into the theme of the impact of propaganda on individuals within the military-industrial complex. The band describes the song as a reflection of the horrifying truth behind the actions of those involved in warfare, stripped of any euphemisms. The track explores the moral decay of an individual who has abandoned their true values to become a pawn in the war machine.

The accompanying music video for ‘Discipline’, shot in Benidorm, follows the narrative of a Harry Styles tribute act experiencing a mental breakdown amidst the glitzy chaos of cabaret shows and neon lights. Director Colin Peppard sought to blur the lines between tribute performances and personal identity, exploring the fine line between the persona of the tribute act and the person behind the facade. The juxtaposition of the vibrant chaos of Benidorm’s new town with the quiet authenticity of the old town adds depth to the visual storytelling.

With their previous single ‘Chocolate’ receiving acclaim in April, Makeshift Art Bar continues to captivate audiences with their bold and unapologetic sound. ‘Discipline’ exhibits a metallic edge reminiscent of the likes of Steve Albini, engaging listeners with its raw intensity and emotional depth. Drawing inspiration from 80s industrial music, the band incorporates hypnotic repetition and harsh distorted electronics, creating a sonic tapestry that is both captivating and unsettling.

Teaming up with indie label Heist or Hit, Makeshift Art Bar is gearing up for a UK headline tour in the fall to celebrate the release of their EP ‘Marionette.’ Produced by Daniel Fox of Gilla Band fame, the band’s upcoming tour promises electrifying performances that showcase their unique blend of genres and influences. From Edinburgh to London, Makeshift Art Bar’s tour dates offer fans across the UK a chance to experience their dynamic and enthralling live shows firsthand.

In a music landscape saturated with cookie-cutter acts, Makeshift Art Bar stands out as a refreshing and innovative force to be reckoned with. Their willingness to push boundaries and explore unconventional themes sets them apart as one of the most exciting new acts to emerge in recent years. With ‘Marionette’ on the horizon and a UK tour in the works, Makeshift Art Bar is poised to make a lasting impact on the music scene and solidify their position as a band to watch.
