Disneyland is celebrating its year-long 70th anniversary, commemorating the park’s opening back in 1955. Along with this celebration, three new rides are being added to the California Disney Parks, in addition to a new Avatar-themed area. Meanwhile, Walt Disney World in Florida is constructing four new lands inspired by various themes, including villains and Pixar characters. CNET recently had the opportunity to get a sneak peek behind the scenes at some of these new areas, offering fans a glimpse of what’s in store.

One of the exciting updates is the opening of the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring The Muppets. This new attraction replaces the previous MuppetVision 3D show, making way for an entire land dedicated to the Monsters Pixar movie franchise at Hollywood Studios. The rapid transition from Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith to the Muppets-themed version was completed swiftly, with the former closing on March 1 and the new ride debuting on May 26. Described as a “rock-charged remix,” the ride immerses guests in the world of The Electric Mayhem, with high-speed thrills and an electrifying soundtrack.

In addition to the Muppets-themed coaster, Monstropolis, inspired by the Monsters, Inc. films and shorts, is set to feature Disney’s first suspended roller coaster. Disney Experiences Chair Josh D’Amaro shared his excitement about this new addition at D23 in 2024, expressing his inspiration from the iconic doors seen in the Monsters, Inc. movie. The design concept for the Monsters, Inc. suspender coaster promises an exhilarating experience that will take visitors on a thrilling journey through the laugh/scream factory.

As visitors gear up for the summer season, these new attractions and lands at Disneyland and Disney World offer a delightful blend of nostalgia and innovation. The expansion of these iconic parks ensures that there is always something fresh and exciting to look forward to, whether you’re a fan of classic Disney characters or newer franchises like Monsters, Inc. and Avatar. With a mix of beloved favorites and cutting-edge technology, the magic of Disney continues to captivate audiences of all ages.
