KKBOX Hong Kong Music Awards brings back ‘Music Reborn’
The 8th edition of the KKBOX Hong Kong Music Awards showcased the transformative power of music, bringing together 19 prominent artists from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan. The event, themed “Music Reborn,” took place at AsiaWorld-Arena, emphasizing the evolving nature of the awards while providing a platform for artists to showcase their hits and offer fresh interpretations of familiar songs.
The opening performances set the tone for the evening, with Keung To, moon tang, and Goodnight Lillie presenting a diverse range of musical styles. Notable collaborations included Golden Melody Award-winning singer Waa Wei and Breakthrough Artist of the Year Mayao Ma delivering a captivating performance of “It’s nothing.” Later, Goodnight Lillie and Janice Vidal teamed up for a punk rock rendition of “Wounded,” infusing the original song with heightened emotional depth.
The event also featured Japanese singer-songwriter jo0ji, making his debut in Hong Kong with soulful performances that added an international flair to the lineup. Cross-genre and cross-language collaborations were a highlight of the show, exemplified by Anson Lo and Feanna Wong’s rendition of ROSÉ’s “toxic till the end,” and Hua Chen joining moon tang for “Red Bean” and “Compensate.”
Music ambassadors played a significant role throughout the evening, with Louis Cheung showcasing a different side with “David Harleyson” and 24Herbs and Stephen Fung elevating the energy with their spirited performances. Edan Lui and Stephy Tang offered a softer moment with their duet “Closed-eye Peacock,” while Xiao Bing Chih and Keung To delivered a heartfelt set of songs, including a touching rendition of Leslie Cheung’s “Chase.”
The night concluded with a powerful performance by MIRROR members Jer Lau and Anson Lo, conveying a message of resilience and dedication. Anson Lo closed the show with the debut of his new song “Helicopter,” bringing the 8th KKBOX Hong Kong Music Awards to a vibrant finale.
