Billy Morrison has teamed up with The Offspring frontman Dexter Holland to release their new single, “Never Gonna Change,” a pop-punk anthem that sets the stage for Morrison’s upcoming album, Hollow. Scheduled for release on August 7 through TLG|ZOID and Virgin Music Group, the track is packed with energetic hooks, powerful guitars, and a rebellious attitude that epitomizes the spirit of classic skate-punk while providing a fresh anthem for a new audience.

The lyrics of “Never Gonna Change” delve into themes of growing up in a dysfunctional environment, embracing youthful rebellion, and living in the present without dwelling on the past. Rooted in the ethos of punk rock, the song combines elements of nostalgia with a contemporary vibe, resonating with listeners across generations.

Morrison describes the track as a quintessential slice of pop-punk defiance that transcends age barriers: “Teenagers will always feel the same — misunderstood — and Dexter has been one of the most significant voices of teenage angst and rebellion since The Offspring burst onto the scene in 1984. When I finished writing this song with Jacob Bunton, we knew we wanted Dexter to lend his voice to it. Having recently performed with him in Royal Machines, I reached out to him, and he loved the idea. Thanks to modern technology, he was able to record his parts while on tour with The Offspring, and Barry Pointer expertly mixed the track into what it is today.”

For Holland, collaborating with Morrison on “Never Gonna Change” was a no-brainer, given their mutual respect and the infectious energy of the song: “Billy Morrison has a stellar track record and is a great guy, so when he approached me for this collaboration, I was immediately on board. The song strikes the perfect balance of angst, rebellion, and fun. It’s a summer anthem, in my opinion.”

Accompanying the single is a visually captivating lyric video directed by Mike Savage, a departure from the traditional static lyric videos common in the industry. Morrison applauds Savage’s approach, stating that story-driven visuals are the way forward for lyric videos, providing an engaging visual narrative that complements the song’s message effectively.

With Hollow set to be released in August, “Never Gonna Change” offers a glimpse into what listeners can expect from Morrison’s forthcoming album, showcasing the talents of one of rock’s most respected guitarists alongside one of the most recognizable voices in pop-punk.
