Noah Kahan’s ‘The Great Divide’ Achieves No. 1 Album on Billboard 200
Noah Kahan has achieved his first chart-topping position on the Billboard 200 with his latest album, “The Great Divide,” which debuted at No. 1 on the chart in May of 2026. The album’s impressive performance saw it move 389,000 equivalent album units in its first tracking week, marking the largest week for a rock album in terms of units since Billboard implemented this tracking method in December 2014. This feat surpassed the opening week of Dave Matthews Band’s “Come Tomorrow,” which garnered 292,000 units in June 2018.
“The Great Divide” represents Kahan’s fourth full-length studio album and his fifth overall entry on the Billboard 200, but notably his first to secure the No. 1 spot. His previous album, “Stick Season,” reached a peak of No. 2 in 2024 and has made a resurgence on the charts, climbing from No. 11 to No. 10 in its 179th week on the list.

Additionally, vinyl sales contributed significantly to the album’s success, with 118,000 units sold, setting a new record for the best vinyl sales week for a rock album in the era of modern sales tracking that commenced in 1991. Furthermore, streaming activity played a significant role, adding 212,000 units and equating to 215.37 million on-demand streams of the album’s tracks – making it the largest streaming week for any album in 2026 so far. Track sales rounded out the album’s impressive performance with 2,000 units sold. “The Great Divide” also debuted at No. 1 on both Billboard’s Top Streaming Albums and Top Album Sales charts, solidifying its status as one of the top-performing albums of the year.
The extensive success of “The Great Divide” can be linked to its expansive release strategy. With the album announced on January 28 and released on April 24, it arrived in nine different vinyl variants, including exclusive editions with bonus live tracks and CD versions, one of which was signed. A deluxe digital edition titled “The Great Divide: The Last of the Bugs” featured four additional studio songs, further enticing fans and contributing to the album’s overall performance.
In addition to the album’s triumph, its title track, “The Great Divide,” has also seen immense success, spending 11 weeks at the top of the Adult Alternative Airplay chart and peaking at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 – making it Kahan’s highest-charting single to date. Other notable entries on the same Billboard 200 chart include Kehlani’s self-titled album debuting at No. 4 with 69,000 units, marking the biggest 2026 debut for an R&B album by a woman. Michael Jackson’s iconic “Thriller” re-entered the chart at No. 7 with 45,000 units, a 425% increase spurred by the April 24 theatrical release of the biopic “Michael.”
