Kid Rock speaks about his faith-based album at festival appearance
Kid Rock recently appeared on Fox and Friends to discuss his latest project – a new album inspired by faith. The 55-year-old musician headlined the Rock the Country festival in Hastings, Michigan over the weekend, where he opened up about his spiritual journey and the inspiration behind his upcoming music.
During the interview, Kid Rock revealed that he felt a strong calling to create this album, which stems from a personal connection to James 1:17, a Bible passage that holds significant meaning for him. “Yeah, it’s kind of the spiritual journey I’ve been on and I’ve had a calling through James 1:17, my middle name being James, and 1/17 my birthday,” he shared. “I looked at that passage a while back and it’s all good things basically come from God.”
The idea for the album began after Kid Rock wrote a verse about Jesus for Cody Johnson’s song “‘Til You Can’t.” This initial creative spark led to the development of more songs that eventually culminated in his latest project. The track hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart earlier this year, marking a significant milestone for the musician.
Kid Rock expressed his desire to create music that resonates with people who may find traditional church songs uninspiring. Drawing from his own experiences growing up Catholic, he explained, “And growing up Catholic and going to Catholic church, I was always like, ‘I have to confess, this is boring. This music’s terrible.’ And so I would go to Baptist churches and non-denominals, just looking for the music that I wanted to hear.”
In an effort to infuse his music with his faith, Kid Rock shared that he aimed to blend rock and roll, country, and hip hop with Christian themes. He described the album as a celebration of God that encompasses various genres to create a unique and vibrant sound. “So I decided to write the songs that I kinda wanted to celebrate Jesus and my faith, which are rock and roll, country, hip hop,” he explained.
Describing the album as a joyous celebration that invites people to have a great time while honoring their faith, Kid Rock emphasized the inclusive and welcoming nature of the music. His vision for the project centers around creating a space where individuals can come together to enjoy the music and connect with their spirituality in a lively and engaging environment.
This recent venture into faith-inspired music follows Kid Rock’s announcement of plans to collaborate with producer Rick Rubin on his first gospel album back in early 2025. The musician’s commitment to exploring themes of faith and spirituality through his music underscores a new chapter in his artistic journey, showcasing his evolution as an artist dedicated to meaningful and impactful storytelling through his songs.
