Celebrate Heritage at the PA Chestnut Festival on January 25
The Castanea Township Recreation Committee has exciting plans for the Inaugural Pennsylvania Chestnut Festival on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Castanea Fireman’s Picnic Grounds Building, 859 Lower Creek Road, Piper Memorial Airport, in Lock Haven.
Funded by the township supervisors, Clinton County Economic Partnership and Visitors Bureau, and Clinton County Commissioners, this event is all about honoring the heritage of chestnut trees and celebrating the naming of Castanea for the chestnut.
Expect live music, chestnut-based foods and beverages, vendors, exhibitors, a portable ice rink, and s’mores over outdoor burn barrels. The festival is free admission and is anticipated to draw a crowd of hundreds.
Musical performances are lined up with the John Stevens Doubleshot Polka Band taking the stage at 2 p.m. Known for their appearances at festivals and on Pennsylvania Polka, this band has a mission to keep polka music alive for younger generations.
Private Stock Trio, a Lock Haven-based band, will perform at 5 p.m. With a repertoire of folk, country, and acoustic rock hits, they have quite a dedicated following in the region.
Food offerings include Sausage and Chestnut Stuffing Balls, Chestnut, Bacon and Parsnip Bisque, Winter Greens Salad with Chestnut Vinaigrette, Chestnut Coffee Chocolate Chip Cookies, BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders, Beef Chili, and Buffalo Chicken Wraps by Farmstead Fusion.
For families, there will be a children’s menu available along with hot chocolate and soda. And for those looking for a sip of something stronger, Bald Birds Brewing Company will be selling a variety of alcoholic beverages.
Vendors and crafters will also be present, and the PA Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation will be on hand to provide information about the chestnut tree and its revival plan.
