Artemis is gearing up to release their third album, “Arboresque,” on February 28 via Blue Note Records. The first single, titled “The Smile Of The Snake,” is already available for fans to enjoy. The jazz collective has also scheduled performances at the iconic New York City venue, Village Vanguard, from March 4 to 9 to celebrate the album release.

Comprising eight songs, “Arboresque” includes new renditions of classic tracks like Burt Bacharach’s “What The World Needs Now Is Love” and Wayne Shorter’s “Footprints.” The album delves into themes of natural and environmental beauty, as hinted by the title.

Originally brought together by pianist and musical director RenĂ©e Rosnes in 2016 to commemorate International Women’s Day, Artemis boasts a roster of talented musicians, including trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, tenor saxophonist Nicole Glover, bassist Noriko Ueda, and drummer Allison Miller. Each member of the band contributed an original composition to the album.

Rosnes describes the group as dedicated to creating authentic music that resonates with listeners, emphasizing the positive energy and passion that come through in their performances. Despite lineup changes over the years, the band’s current iteration embodies stability and synergy, with each member bringing their unique voice and talent to the table.

“The Smile Of The Snake,” as covered by Artemis, conveys a poignant message about the disappointments that can arise from trusted individuals. The song serves as a testament to the group’s collective musical prowess and shared artistic vision.

As a quintet, Artemis feels both looser and tighter, with a greater sense of elasticity that allows for dynamic performances. The band’s cohesion is highlighted by Rosnes’ admiration for their individual strengths and contributions, culminating in a harmonious and powerful musical experience.

Fans can pre-order “Arboresque” now to experience Artemis’ latest creative endeavor that promises to captivate audiences with its heartfelt and evocative sound.
