Momma announces release of new album “Welcome To My Blue Sky”
Momma has introduced their upcoming album, entitled Welcome to My Blue Sky, set to be released on April 4th, 2025, through Polyvinyl Record Co./Lucky Number. The band has unveiled a track from the LP called “I Want You (Fever),” accompanied by a music video directed by Jaxon Whittington. The band shares that the song delves into the desire to be with someone who may already be in a relationship or isn’t fully moved on from their past. It captures the longing for someone while also portraying a sense of certainty that the feeling is reciprocated. The band felt a sense of renewal and excitement when they created this song, prompting them to restart the album-writing process to align with this new direction and energy.
The group consists of Etta Friedman (songwriter/vocalist/guitarist), Allegra Weingarten (songwriter/vocalist/guitarist), Aron Kobayashi Ritch (producer/bassist), and Preston Fulks (drummer). In addition to the album release, Momma is embarking on an extensive headlining tour this spring, with shows scheduled across North America and the U.K. The band is also set to perform at Primavera Sound in Barcelona and Porto, as well as Outbreak Festival in London and Manchester in June.
The album, Welcome to My Blue Sky, was recorded live with the full band at Studio G in Brooklyn, produced by Aron Kobayashi. Serving as a follow-up to Household Name, the band aimed to prioritize solid songwriting over being perceived as cool or edgy. Weingarten mentions that the focus was on creating melodic, meaningful songs that resonate with listeners and encourage them to get lost in the music.
The thematic core of Welcome to My Blue Sky revolves around a pivotal and tumultuous summer, which Friedman and Weingarten characterize as a time of “parallel chaos.” This period marked by personal struggles, including infidelity, loneliness, and the beginning of new relationships, led the co-founders to lean on each other for support. Through shared songwriting sessions, they navigated through their emotional turmoil, culminating in the creation of this album.
The majority of the album’s tracks were penned by Friedman and Weingarten on acoustic guitars, before collaborating with Kobayashi Ritch to refine the songs. Through a meticulous demoing process, the band elevated their sound to reach a new level of excellence. The band underwent this transformative process while on tour with Death Cab For Cutie and Weezer, setting a new standard for their musical output.
Fans can pre-order Welcome to My Blue Sky to experience Momma’s latest offering as they delve into a new era of their music-making journey.
