Italian blues artist Zucchero to headline Għaxaq Music Festival
Italian blues rock singer Zucchero is set to make a comeback to Malta this summer for a performance at the Għaxaq Music Festival. Taking place on July 17 at the Għaxaq Grounds, this concert is part of his Overdose D’Amore World Tour. It has been quite a while since the renowned singer, often referred to as the father of Italian blues, has graced Malta with his presence. His last performance on the island was seven years ago when he performed at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali in 2017.
Zucchero, whose real name is Adelmo Fornaciari, boasts a career spanning over 40 years and is considered one of Italy’s top-selling and globally recognized musicians. With over 60 million records sold worldwide, he is best known for his chart-topping hits like Senza Una Donna, Diamante, Diavolo In Me, and the iconic duet Miserere with the late Luciano Pavarotti. Throughout his illustrious career, Zucchero has collaborated with a plethora of legendary artists including Eric Clapton, Brian May, Elton John, Miles Davis, Sting, Ray Charles, B. B. King, and Andrea Bocelli.
In a remarkable milestone in 1990, Zucchero became the first Western artist to perform at the Kremlin following the collapse of the Soviet Union. He is also one of the select few Italian musicians to have graced the stage at Woodstock ’94 and has had the honor of multiple performances at prestigious venues like London’s Royal Albert Hall.
The Għaxaq Music Festival, which marked its 25th anniversary last year, has a history of hosting prominent international acts. Past editions of the festival have featured esteemed artists such as Ronan Keating, Grammy Award winner Julian Marley, Boney M, The Wailers, and UB40. This year, attendees can look forward to an unforgettable performance by Zucchero.
