Cloth, a musical duo featuring Rachael and Paul Swinton, made the exciting announcement regarding their upcoming album, Pink Silence, set to be released on April 25th through Rock Action. Prior to the official album release, the talented sibling duo from Glasgow shared a sneak peek into their new work with the release of their latest single, “Golden.”

With the album being produced by acclaimed producer Ali Chant, known for his work with iconic names like Perfume Genius, PJ Harvey, and Yard Act, the anticipation for Pink Silence is palpable. This announcement comes after the duo unveiled their first new music since their 2023 album for Rock Action, Secret Measure, with the single ‘Polaroid’ from 2024. Pink Silence boasts collaborations with top artists such as Portishead’s Adrian Utley, Owen Pallett, and Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite.

In a statement about the new single, Paul Swinton shared, “I remember writing the main chorus guitar hook of this song, Rachael adding a chord accompaniment, and me saying to her ‘this songs needs to sound like Talking Heads!’ I think that plan of action maybe got a bit lost along the way, but it’s still one of the album’s most musically upbeat moments, with a great hi-hat-driven beat in the chorus and a bridge which might be my favourite of any Cloth song.” The track explores the complexities of a breakup and the overwhelming sense of loss that comes with it, highlighting the heart-wrenching sentiment of wishing one had never fallen in love at all.

Pink Silence showcases a more organic and spontaneous approach to songwriting by Cloth. The duo aimed to let the songs take their natural shape rather than conforming them to a predetermined structure. The result is a collection of tracks that feel immersive and authentic, perfectly embodying the essence of what Pink Silence represents. The Swintons explained, “This idea of pink silence describes the early morning or later in the evening, when you get this sort of strange ethereal light in the sky. It can mean one of two things; something which feels blissfully serene or something charged with a real sense of foreboding. We loved the idea that something so natural, beautiful and all-pervasive could have such an intense duality to it.”

With a diverse tracklisting that includes songs like “Stuck,” “The Cottage,” and “Write It Down,” Pink Silence promises to be a multifaceted and impactful musical journey. Alongside the album release, Cloth has also announced a series of tour dates, including shows in the UK and the US, with Mogwai being one of the notable artists they will be supporting.

As the release date for Pink Silence draws near, fans can pre-order the album to ensure they don’t miss out on Cloth’s latest offerings. With their unique sound and thoughtful approach to songwriting, Cloth’s Pink Silence is bound to captivate audiences and establish them as a musical force to be reckoned with in the indie music scene.
