Google has recently revealed that Project Astra is powering live video and screen sharing capabilities in Gemini Live. The company announced at MWC 2025 that these features would be rolling out later in the month. Upon the launch of the Gemini overlay on Android, users will notice a new button labeled “Share screen with Live” positioned above the Ask Gemini text field. By tapping on this button, individuals can easily share their screen with Gemini Live. The new feature includes a phone call-style notification system for a seamless experience. Compared to the old method, the new approach involves a persistent pill displayed next to the time, indicating a live count and enabling users to quickly access the full user interface. This enhancement allows users to ask questions about the content on their screen and engage in a meaningful conversation back and forth.

Simultaneously, when launching the fullscreen Gemini Live mode, users will see a new video shortcut next to the screen share function. This live feed takes up most of the screen, providing an immersive viewing experience. Google has also made a minor adjustment to the visual appearance of the circular buttons for Hold and End, which have been replaced with pill-shaped containers.

The tech giant has been teasing these new capabilities since May of the previous year during I/O 2024 and went on to introduce new features powered by Gemini 2.0 in December. A sneak peek was provided in January at the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy S25. Google is set to release these new Gemini Live features to Gemini Advanced subscribers as part of the Google One AI Premium plan on Android devices later this month. Attendees at MWC in Barcelona have the opportunity to experience these features firsthand today.

As Google continues to expand Gemini, users can expect an array of new features and enhancements. Gemini Live is an exciting addition to the platform, offering video and screen sharing capabilities to improve user interactions. These new functionalities will surely benefit subscribers, making Gemini a more versatile and engaging platform for a variety of use cases.
