Grace Potter to sing national anthem at 2025 Kentucky Derby

Grammy-nominated vocalist and songwriter Grace Potter has been selected to sing the national anthem at the esteemed 2025 Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve on May 3 at the iconic Churchill Downs Racetrack. Potter’s performance is scheduled just after 5 p.m. and will be broadcast live as part of NBC’s Kentucky Derby coverage, reaching a global audience of millions.

“Grace Potter’s remarkable vocal talent has transcended various music genres for over twenty years, making her an excellent choice to lead our fans in the stands and around the world in the national anthem at this year’s Kentucky Derby,” stated Mike Anderson, the president of Churchill Downs Racetrack. He further expressed excitement for Potter to bring her captivating voice to Churchill Downs, capturing the essence and grandeur of Derby Day.

Potter joins an illustrious lineup of artists who have sung the “Star-Spangled Banner” at the historic horse racing event, such as Wynonna Judd (2024), Carly Pearce (2023), and Jennifer Nettles (2019). Her inclusion marks the 16th major artist to perform the national anthem at the Kentucky Derby, continuing the tradition of showcasing top musical talent at the event.

Known for receiving Grammy nominations for Best Rock Album, Best Rock Performance, and Best Country Duo/Group Performance, Potter’s musical prowess has been recognized and celebrated throughout her career. In addition to her upcoming album release, Potter will be embarking on a tour with country music star Chris Stapleton in July, further solidifying her status as a standout performer in the music industry.

In addition to Potter’s appearance, Olympic gymnast Simone Biles will make the traditional “Riders Up” announcement at the 2025 Kentucky Derby. Preceding the Kentucky Oaks race on May 2, Livvy Dunne, a gymnast and social media influencer, will announce “Riders Up,” while Gina Miles, winner of NBC’s “The Voice” season 23, will grace the event with her rendition of the national anthem.
