The 2025 American Music Awards made a grand return after a two-year hiatus, celebrating some of the music industry’s biggest stars on Monday in Las Vegas. Kendrick Lamar, a three-time AMA winner, led the nominations with 10 nods but ended up taking home only one award for favorite hip-hop song. Despite being nominated for top categories like artist of the year, Lamar was bested by Billie Eilish, who took home the coveted artist of the year title.
Accompanying Lamar in nominations was Post Malone, with eight nods, also aiming for wins in artist, album, and song of the year categories. While he managed to secure two wins for favorite country song and favorite male country artist, Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Shaboozey each received seven nominations, showcasing the diverse talent and competition at this year’s AMAs. Taylor Swift, a record-breaking winner with the most AMA wins in history, earned six nominations this year, however, she left the ceremony empty-handed, disappointing fans who had hoped for a new album announcement.
Hosted by Jennifer Lopez for the second time after her debut in 2015, the ceremony kicked off with an opening dance number by Lopez herself. The night saw performances by Benson Boone, Gwen Stefani, Janet Jackson, and Rod Stewart. Jackson was honored with the Icon Award, while Stewart received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, affirming their lasting impact on the music industry.
