Donna Summer, the legendary disco icon from Boston, has been posthumously honored with the release of a song she recorded back in 2008. The newly released track “Run” was part of Summer’s final studio album, “Crayons,” but remained unreleased until now. Renowned songwriter Tony Gad, known for hits like John Legend’s “All Of Me,” BeyoncĂ©’s “If I Were A Boy,” and Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” was instrumental in bringing the song to life, having worked closely with Summer on the “Crayons” album. One notable collaboration between Gad and Summit was the track “Fame (The Game),” which topped the Billboard Dance chart.

Hailing from Dorchester and raised in the Mission Hill neighborhood of Boston, Summer is affectionately remembered as the “Queen of Disco” for iconic hits such as “Hot Stuff” and “She Works Hard For The Money.” Unfortunately, the music world lost Summer in 2012, following a battle with lung cancer at the age of 63. Gad fondly reminisced about his time spent with Summer, sharing heartwarming anecdotes that shed light on the iconic singer’s talent and personality.

“Donna came to my studio in New York, where we instantly connected,” Gad reflected. Describing Summer as a warm and kind-hearted person, Gad recalled a session where Summer effortlessly nailed a song they had written together in just one take. Comparing her vocal prowess to a young BeyoncĂ©, Gad highlighted Summer’s innate ability to deliver flawless performances with ease, a sentiment echoed in his work with the budding star on “If I Were A Boy.”

“Run” is now making its way to music streaming platforms, marking a poignant moment in Donna Summer’s enduring legacy. The release of this long-lost track serves as a tribute to an artist whose influence on the music industry continues to be felt. As fans and music enthusiasts alike embrace the unearthed gem, Donna Summer’s contribution to the world of music is once again celebrated, reminding us of the indelible mark she left behind in the realm of disco and beyond.
