Brandi Carlile performs Alanis Morissette cover with Lucius at Red Rocks

Brandi Carlile recently performed a three-show residency at Red Rocks, where she delighted fans with special guests, covers, and new song debuts. Joining her on stage were Lucius, who accompanied Carlile on each night of the run. The concerts also featured a lineup of talented musicians, including Carlile’s longtime bandmates Phil and Tim Hanseroth, SistaStrings, drummer Matt Chamberlain, and keyboardist Taylor Mackall.

The opening night kicked off with the live premiere of Carlile’s latest single, “Returning To Myself,” the title track of her upcoming album set for release on October 24. Lucius vocalists Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig made their first appearance to perform “You and Me on the Rock” followed by the debut of “Church & State” during the main set. The duo later joined Carlile for a cover of Alanis Morissette’s “Uninvited,” which became a recurring highlight of the subsequent shows along with their participation in “Two of Us on the Run.”

Singer-songwriter Allison Ponthier, who opened for Carlile during the residency, joined the singer during the encore performances on Saturday and Sunday nights. Ponthier collaborated with Carlile on The Highwomen’s track “If She Ever Leaves Me” and stayed on for “Hold Out Your Hand.” The closing show also featured the talents of Carlile’s family members, JayJ Carlile and Caroline Carlile, who perform as The Carlile Family Band, for a rendition of their song, “Ruby.”

Throughout the Red Rocks concerts, Carlile showcased songs from her collaboration album with Elton John, along with covers of iconic artists like Joni Mitchell, Radiohead, The Pretenders, and Tears For Fears. Fans were treated to a diverse setlist that spanned genres and eras, showcasing Carlile’s versatility as a musician and performer.

The performances were filled with heartwarming moments and exceptional musical talent, leaving audiences captivated and eager for more. With a blend of new songs, familiar tunes, and special collaborations, Brandi Carlile’s Red Rocks residency was a memorable experience for all in attendance.
