Wilson Street to be closed for Coldplay concerts at Rogers Stadium: Live Nation
The management of the newly opened Rogers Stadium in Toronto is gearing up to handle the influx of concertgoers expected for the upcoming Coldplay shows scheduled for July 7, 8, 11, and 12. This follows reports of significant crowd management challenges during the recent Stray Kids concert held at the venue, which left attendees stranded for up to two hours while trying to leave the venue due to overcrowding and transit system inefficiencies.
Live Nation Canada, the concert promoter, has acknowledged the issues faced during the inaugural concert and is actively working on solutions to ensure a smoother experience for fans attending future events. They have been collaborating with the City of Toronto, transit operators, and emergency services to implement necessary changes.
As part of their efforts, Live Nation Canada has made key adjustments based on feedback from fans and the community. These include updated traffic plans with road closures, increased traffic personnel on-site, and improved signage and communication to facilitate better coordination. Wayne Zronik, the president of business operations at Live Nation Canada, mentioned that enhancements such as lighting, additional staff, and water stations are being put in place. The venue’s exit routes are also being reconfigured to allow for a smoother flow of traffic and to disperse the crowd effectively to nearby subway stations.
In response to the upcoming Coldplay concerts, the closure of Wilson Avenue from Murray Road to Dufferin Street has been announced, although local traffic will not be affected. Attendees have been encouraged to take advantage of public transit options to reduce traffic congestion in the area. The TTC plans to increase staffing at Downsview and Wilson stations to accommodate the surge in passengers during the concert days.
Despite these efforts, concerns have been raised by educators regarding the decision to delay curriculum updates in Ontario, sparking a debate among stakeholders. Toronto’s ice company, featured in Drake’s latest video, has also garnered attention for its portrayal in the popular artist’s work, showcasing the unique stories behind local businesses.
Meanwhile, the decision by MLSE to part ways with Italian soccer stars from Toronto FC has opened up new opportunities for the MLS franchise. These changes reflect the ongoing evolution within Toronto’s cultural and entertainment landscape, highlighting the dynamic nature of the city’s offerings.
