Gruff Rhys releases new song and announces live dates
Gruff Rhys has recently released his newest song, “Saf Ar Dy Sedd” as a preview of his upcoming album, Dim Probs. This lively country tune features upbeat vocals and was inspired by Cymraeg activist Toni Schiavone, who made headlines for refusing to pay a parking fine in Aberystwyth unless it was translated into Welsh. Gruff explains that the song is a drum machine-driven country track meant as a tribute to Schiavone, with the chorus translating to “stand on your seat.”
Accompanying the release of “Saf Ar Dy Sedd” is a visually captivating video featuring the Dim Probs dog character created by Gruff’s visual collaborator Pete Fowler. This psychedelic video, animated by the BAFTA-nominated Cornish company, Spider Eye, adds an extra layer of whimsy to the already catchy track.
Dim Probs, Gruff’s fourth solo album performed entirely in Welsh, was recorded in Bristol with producer Ali Chant in late 2024 and is scheduled for release on September 12, 2025, via Rock Action Records. The first single from the album, “Chwyn Chwyldroadol!, was shared in June, giving fans a taste of what to expect from the full album.
To support the release of Dim Probs, Gruff has lined up a series of live performances in September and October. Featuring both band and solo performances, the shows promise an exciting mix of new and familiar material.
