Leah Moore collaborates on the new graphic novel “The Funeral Project: Welcome to Suffocate City” inspired by the music and lore of The Funeral Portrait band. The narrative follows Irving Westhound, dedicated to unraveling the mystery of the town’s youth’s fascination with the enigmatic Cults’ leader before it’s too late. The band, known for their visually captivating music videos and lore-centered songwriting, boasts over 650K Spotify monthly listeners and has been touring extensively in 2025.

The graphic novel, part of Z2 Comics’ October 2025 lineup, is written by Leah Moore and illustrated by Andres Labrada, offering a fresh take on the band’s songs and videos. Notably, The Funeral Portrait’s debut album featured hit singles like “Suffocate City” with Spencer Charnas and “Holy Water” with Ivan Moody, both claiming the #1 spot on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in recent years. The seamless transition from their musical storytelling to visual media promises an immersive experience for fans.

In addition to “The Funeral Project,” Z2 Comics also announces “The Return of Blues Brothers: The Escape of Joliet Jake,” scheduled for release in October 2025. This graphic novel explores the continued adventures of Jake Blues and Elwood following their iconic film, with a new creative team breathing life into the beloved characters. Featuring a blend of original and new elements, the storyline delves into a mysterious jailbreak and the pursuit of Jake Blues by a determined detective, Robert Papageorge. As the plot unfolds, surprising revelations and alliances emerge, including the introduction of Wolfie, an orphan tied to the Blues Brothers’ past.

Notable creatives Stella Aykroyd, Luke Pisano, James Werner, and Felipe Sobreiro contribute to “The Return of Blues Brothers,” alongside Dan Aykroyd’s involvement in unveiling the project at San Diego Comic-Con. The upcoming release has garnered significant press attention from industry names like DEADLINE, BILLBOARD, ROLLING STONE, YAHOO, PARADE, and POPVERSE, heightening anticipation for fans of the iconic duo’s escapades.
