KITAKINEMA to showcase Silent Films with Live Narration and Piano Accompaniment in Vol.4

Kitakinema is proud to present the 4th edition of its silent film viewing event in Hokkaido, promising a unique experience filled with live narration and piano accompaniment. This deluxe event will feature two screenings per day, offering attendees an enriching and immersive cinematic journey.

The morning session, starting at 10:30, kicks off with “Chinkoro Heihei Tamatebako,” a delightful short animation directed by Nobuo Ofuji, a pioneer in Japanese animation. Following this is “Armament Keaton,” a comedic masterpiece starring and directed by the legendary Buster Keaton. Known as one of the world’s greatest comedians alongside Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd, Keaton’s rendition of a Romeo and Juliet comedic tale is filled with thrills, action, and suspense, making it a treat for audiences of all ages.

In the afternoon session, beginning at 14:00, viewers will be treated to “The Man Who Laughs,” a masterpiece from the late silent film era. Featuring mature acting, stunning visuals, and intricate stage design, this film stars Conrad Veidt, renowned for his work in “Dr. Caligari” and “Casablanca.” Based on the original work by Victor Hugo, known for literary classics like “Les Miserables” and “Notre Dame de Paris,” this captivating film promises an unforgettable cinematic experience.

The cast includes motion picture narrator Kumiko Omori and musician/pianist Ryo Torikai, both hailing from Kansai. Omori and Torikai bring their unique talents to the event, enhancing the overall viewing experience with their expertise and passion for the art of silent cinema.

Tickets for the event are affordably priced to cater to a diverse audience. General admission is set at 2,500 yen for a single performance or 3,800 yen for both screenings. Seniors (over 65) and individuals with disabilities can enjoy the event for 2,000 yen (2,800 yen for both performances), while attendees under 25 can avail tickets for 1,500 yen (1,800 yen for both screenings). Adults and children under 18 can secure their tickets for 3,000 yen (3,800 yen for both performances). Please note that prices will increase by 300 yen on the day of the event, and reservations are mandatory for attending both screenings.
