Original lead singer of legendary metal band passes away at age 69

After his departure from Iron Maiden, Day continued to make his mark in the British heavy metal scene. In 1980, he founded the band More, which released their first album “Warhead” in 1981.

“We are saddened by the news of the passing of the talented More vocalist Paul Mario Day,” his former band More expressed in a statement following his death. “Paul played a significant role in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement during his time with an early incarnation of Iron Maiden and his exceptional performance on the ‘Warhead’ album.”

Following his time with More, Day went on to front the band Wildfire from 1983 to 1984 before departing prior to the release of their second album. Day found commercial success in 1985 when he joined Sweet, collaborating with guitarist Andy Scott and drummer Mick Tucker.

“Paul Mario Day RIP,” Scott remarked upon hearing of Day’s passing. “PMD was the original lead singer of IRON MAIDEN and was also part of the band MORE before joining SWEET. He peacefully passed away at his residence in Australia.”
