Author & Punisher release new single “Titanis” from upcoming album “Nocturnal Birding”
Industrial noise project Author & Punisher has unveiled their latest track entitled “Titanis,” which is set to kick off their forthcoming album, Nocturnal Birding, marking the solo act’s first full-length release since the 2022 Krüller. The intensity and power of “Titanis” hint at a promising album release on October 3, teeming with potential.
For the uninitiated, Author & Punisher is the brainchild of composer, vocalist, and mechanical engineer Tristan Shone, who primarily operates as a one-man show but occasionally collaborates with other artists on select tracks. Nocturnal Birding is hailed as Author & Punisher’s project with the broadest reach to date, revealing a new creative direction for Shone as he delves into the intricate world of birds to craft this unique offering.
Shone sheds light on his creative process for Nocturnal Birding, sharing how bird songs played a pivotal role in shaping the album’s sound and structure. Drawing inspiration from various bird species, Shone explains, “When I sat down to start writing this album, I knew I wanted to make songs based on birdsong. The actual first guitar riff is one of the meadowlark’s songs. When you listen to ‘Rook,’ that melody is the rook’s sound.”
Adding further intrigue to the mix, “Titanis” features a collaborative effort with artist Kuntari, who contributed to the studio recording of the album and also participated in creating its accompanying music video. Reflecting on the collaboration with Tristan Shone, Kuntari remarks on the seamless blend of their sounds, leading to an unexpectedly remarkable result that transcends boundaries and limitations.
The upcoming album, Nocturnal Birding, is slated for release on October 3 through Relapse Records, offering a diverse tracklist that promises an eclectic mix of sounds and influences.
