BBC to air new documentary on final chapter of Ozzy Osbourne’s life, titled “Coming Home”
The latest one-hour documentary by the BBC will delve into the final chapter of the legendary Ozzy Osbourne’s life. Titled “Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home,” the film is poised to hit the airwaves on BBC One and iPlayer, premiering on Sunday, August 18, at 9 p.m. (U.K. time). The documentary paints an unembellished and personal portrait of the heavy metal icon during his last years, capturing the Osbourne family’s journey over three years.
During this period, the camera captured Ozzy’s struggles with severe health problems, including Parkinson’s disease and spinal complications, as he and wife Sharon embarked on their long-cherished dream of returning to the United Kingdom. The documentary takes viewers behind the scenes of Ozzy’s efforts to get back in shape for one final live performance, culminating in an emotional homecoming show in Birmingham on July 5. This memorable event saw Ozzy perform a solo set and reunite with Black Sabbath just 17 days before his untimely passing on July 22.
The film provides an intimate glimpse into the family dynamics of the Osbournes, focusing on the deep bond between Ozzy and Sharon, and their children Jack and Kelly. Initially conceived as a reality-style series under the title “Home to Roost” in 2022, the project transformed into a one-hour standalone film due to Ozzy’s deteriorating health. “Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home” is a co-production between Expectation and JOKS Productions Limited, with international distribution by Banijay Rights. Clare Sillery, the BBC’s head of commissioning for documentaries, acknowledged the honor of filming the Osbourne family as they prepared to return to the U.K., capturing moments of humor, reflection, and enduring spirit.
