Wolfgang Van Halen recently extended a warm welcome to Alter Bridge into the esteemed 5150 Studios, a studio founded by his late legendary father, Eddie Van Halen. This rare opportunity allowed Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy to work on their eighth album in this iconic space.

Mark Tremonti shared his reflections on the experience of creating Alter Bridge’s latest album at 5150 Studios, describing it as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” Thanks to their connection with Wolfgang Van Halen, the band aimed to approach their creative process differently for this album, moving into the studios where Eddie Van Halen himself had recorded some of Van Halen’s most iconic albums. The band, along with longtime producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette, immersed themselves in writing sessions, pre-production, and drum recordings during their month-long residency.

Tremonti expressed the profound impact of working in a studio with such a rich history, stating, “It gives you the confidence like, ‘We must be doing something right if we’re allowed to be here on this hallowed ground of rock ‘n’ roll’.” He emphasized the surreal and dream-like quality of the experience, noting moments where they would lose themselves in the creative process, only to snap back to reality and marvel at the surroundings.

For Tremonti, the 5150 sessions carried a personal significance as well. He recounted Eddie Van Halen’s support during Tremonti’s Creed days, highlighting an incident where Eddie gifted him his “most prized possession.” Over the years, Tremonti’s bond with the Van Halen family grew stronger, with Wolfgang occasionally joining Tremonti on stage and even assisting Alter Bridge, leading to a scenario where Tremonti found himself performing for Eddie Van Halen.

Tremonti also shared a memorable encounter with Eddie Van Halen at an Alter Bridge show in LA, where Eddie, accompanied by Wolfgang, witnessed the band in action. Reflecting on Van Halen’s commitment to excellence, Tremonti praised his relentless pursuit of musical perfection and recalled a moment where Eddie sought validation for his contributions, despite being an undisputed guitar legend.

Outside of his Alter Bridge endeavors, Tremonti has been developing his line of guitar pedals, hinting at a pedal that rivals the iconic Klon. These pedals are likely to feature in the new album, alongside Tremonti’s preferred combination of PRS guitars and Dumble amps.
