st part of the record became a group effort for Covert, the other half was performed entirely solo, diving deep into cinematic ambient soundscapes, dreamy Frippertronic-influenced guitars, modular synth, and free-jazz drumming filtered through a post-industrial lens. These compositions immerse themselves in meticulously layered sound design with nods to slowcore and minimalist post-rock, providing a dynamic contrast to the trio’s raw intensity.

Scheduled for release on 17th October, the new album “Dream Vessel” by William Covert sees the artist exploring new musical territories with a blend of genres. With influences from John Zorn, Naked City, Painkiller, King Crimson, and the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Covert and his band create a unique sonic landscape by combining improvised music, jazz, and ambient soundscapes. The album integrates abrasive noise rock, free-jazz textures, and cinematic ambient atmospheres, showcasing a diverse range of musical elements.

“Dream Vessel is more of a full rock band feel for much of it while going into uncharted musical territory,” explains William Covert, highlighting the album as an experimental journey combining abrasive noise rock with free-jazz textures in a band format. The William Covert Trio, consisting of Covert on drums, Jack McKevitt on guitar, and Nathan Schenck on bass, plays a significant role in the album. Recorded live in the studio without overdubs, the trio captures the raw energy of their spontaneous and visceral performances, drawing from their experience in Chicago’s post-hardcore noise rock scene.

William Covert’s musical evolution began with more than 15 years of drumming in various bands, leading to experimentation with live-looped synths alongside acoustic and electronic drums. This experimentation resulted in two solo albums characterized by post-rock and krautrock-inspired synth loops, performed using loop pedals and sequencers. For his third solo album, Covert decided to venture in a new direction with different instrumentation, culminating in the creation of “Dream Vessel.”

The album features a dynamic contrast between group efforts and solo performances. While the William Covert Trio brings a raw intensity with their avant-garde noise rock improvisations, Covert’s solo compositions delve into cinematic ambient soundscapes, dreamy Frippertronic-influenced guitars, modular synth, and free-jazz drumming with a post-industrial twist. The meticulously layered sound design in these solo tracks nods to slowcore and minimalist post-rock, adding depth and texture to the overall sonic experience.

With a release date set for 17th October, “Dream Vessel” by William Covert promises to be a captivating musical journey, showcasing the artist’s experimentation with genre-blending and innovative sound design. Stay tuned for the album’s launch and immerse yourself in a world of creative expression and musical exploration.
