Track “JOAN” by NATI features addictive alt-pop sound, departing from folk style
Scottish emerging talent NATI. has just unveiled her latest single ‘JOAN’, showcasing a shift in her style from folk to vibrant alt-pop, reminiscent of popular artists like Christine and the Queens and HAIM. Stepping away from her traditional celtic acoustic folk roots, NATI. has embraced a fresh, dynamic sound that incorporates innovative electronic production alongside live drums, bass, and guitar to create a polished yet raw track.
The song represents a bold departure for NATI., who has garnered a dedicated fanbase and millions of streams. Moving away from introspective lyrics about herself, NATI. drew inspiration from an imaginary character, Joan, who embodies both light and dark, beauty and imperfections, perfection and non-existence. Exploring a new approach to songwriting, NATI. wanted to challenge herself creatively by telling Joan’s story without overthinking or over-explaining, a departure from her usual lyric-focused approach.
Collaborating with producer PALMR (known for working with Bloom Twins and Frozemode) and mixer Adrian Hall (responsible for the sound of Depeche Mode, Goldfrapp, and others), NATI. crafted a sonic landscape that seamlessly blends organic instrumentation with modern pop elements, creating what she calls “organic alt-pop” that stands out on record and electrifies on stage. The track features vocal chops, heavy bass, and 808 beats, reflecting a contemporary flair while retaining the authenticity that defines NATI.’s music.
As NATI. gears up to release her third EP, she finds herself on the brink of something bigger, having shed the boundaries of her folk origins while staying true to her storytelling roots. She is set to join Newton Faulkner on the UK leg of his ‘Octopus’ tour, commencing on October 13th in Norwich. With her evolution into an alt-pop artist, NATI. is poised to make a lasting impact on the music scene and capture the hearts of new and existing fans.
Listeners can explore NATI.’s latest single, ‘JOAN’, that encapsulates a fresh beginning for the artist as she continues to push the boundaries of her artistry and embark on an exciting musical journey.
