West Jacksonville Church to Host Job Fair for Individuals Seeking Second Chances

People who struggle to make ends meet and those with a criminal past often find it challenging to secure employment. Recognizing this need, Normandy Park Baptist Church in Jacksonville’s Westside is organizing a job fair to offer a helping hand.

Scheduled for Thursday, September 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the church’s “A Better Job Fair” is designed to support job seekers. The event is free and open to everyone, encouraging attendees to arrive prepared for interviews.

Pastor Troy Dixon emphasized the job fair’s objective of linking individuals with employers willing to provide second chances. “Our current job fair boasts 18 different employers, along with several community partners, ministries, and organizations offering assistance with resume writing, interview preparation, and related services,” Dixon explained.

In collaboration with the nonprofit organization Better Together, which focuses on aiding families in need, this marks the third year the church has hosted such an event.

Dixon underlined that the significance of the job fair goes beyond just employment opportunities. “We hold it every March and September because, as a church, we are committed to addressing the spiritual needs of the community,” he added.

The overarching goal, according to Dixon, is not only to offer individuals a second chance at employment but also to instill hope for a brighter future.
