Deftones Secures First No. 1 on Billboard Radio Chart After 27 Years
Deftones has finally achieved a long-awaited milestone in their career after nearly 30 years in the music industry. Their track “My Mind Is a Mountain” has soared to the top spot on the prestigious Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart. This marks a significant moment for the band, who originally made their debut on the chart back in 1998 with the song “Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away).”
The track “My Mind Is a Mountain” hails from Deftones’ latest album, Private Music, and its rise to the No. 1 position took a steady climb over a period of nine weeks. The band themselves promoted the track on social media, urging their followers to listen to it as they praised their latest work. The song has not only claimed the top spot on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart but also secured the fifth position on the Hot Hard Rock Songs chart as of mid-September.
This accomplishment is particularly noteworthy as it surpasses the previous record held by rock legend Ozzy Osbourne. The “Prince of Darkness” himself waited 26 years between his hits “Crazy Train” in 1981 and “I Don’t Want to Stop,” which reached the top spot in 2007. Deftones’ Private Music album has made a significant impact on various Billboard charts, dominating in four rock categories and breaking into the top 10 in three others. Moreover, the album gained popularity among vinyl enthusiasts, propelling it to the second spot on the specialized vinyl sales chart.
Private Music has left a lasting impression, with all 11 of its tracks finding a place on the Billboard charts. “Infinite Source” led the pack initially, followed by the chart-topping success of “My Mind Is a Mountain.” Additionally, two more tracks, “I Think About You All the Time” and “Milk of the Madonna,” continue to maintain their positions in the top 10 on various charts. Meanwhile, Shinedown remains a close contender with their single “Killing Fields,” holding steady just beneath the top spot as they strive to secure another No. 1 hit in their chart history.
Over the years, Deftones have consistently made their mark on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, with a total of 17 songs making an appearance and nine of them breaking into the top 10. Private Music’s success continued as it maintained its position at No. 1 on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart for two consecutive weeks, solidifying Deftones’ status as a force to be reckoned with in the rock music scene.
