Vance Joy has recently released a new double A-side, Divine Feelings/Fascination in the Dark, which is considered his most significant work since In Our Own Sweet Time in 2022.

In this latest release, Joy showcases his talent for blending intimacy with the grandeur of a stadium performance. Fascination in the Dark, the accompanying track to Divine Feelings, delves into the realm of a first encounter during a night out – capturing the moment of connection between two people amidst the chaos of a social setting. The lyrics encapsulate the spark of a new relationship, while the music builds into a rock anthem, complete with horns and a soaring chorus that is tailor-made for live festival performances.

The visual component of both tracks is directed by Melbourne filmmaker W.A.M. Bleakley, a frequent collaborator known for his cinematic storytelling. Fascination in the Dark introduces viewers to the central characters portrayed by Erana James and Tom Wilson, who embark on a spontaneous adventure after a chance encounter at a remote outback petrol station in Australia. The film seamlessly transitions into Divine Feelings, creating a cohesive narrative that complements the music.

During the filming process, Bleakley shared that a significant amount of the final cut relied on improvisation, with many local residents participating in various roles. The sense of community involvement added to the authenticity of the project, with locals contributing to the production in unexpected ways, from providing support to assisting with technical aspects of the shoot.

Vance Joy recently concluded a successful North American tour, where he surprised fans with impromptu performances at intimate venues such as O’Reilly’s and Old Mates Pub, offering audiences a taste of the new material. He is set to headline Adelaide’s Harvest Rock Festival this month, marking his first major Australian appearance since 2023 and solidifying his status as one of the country’s most prominent music exports.

Since the release of his debut album Dream Your Life Away in 2014, Vance Joy has established himself as a unique voice in the folk-pop genre, capable of creating music that resonates on a personal and universal level. His chart-topping singles like Mess Is Mine and Georgia, along with the success of his subsequent albums, including Nation of Two and In Our Own Sweet Time, have propelled him to international stardom, with sold-out shows across continents.

Fans can catch Vance Joy live at the Harvest Rock Festival in Adelaide on October 25th, witnessing firsthand the magic of his latest musical offerings in a live setting.
