Kathodos debuts music video for “The Dark Priests”
Experimental project Kathodos has recently released a new music video for the track “The Dark Priests,” taken from their debut album, Parasomnia: Pavor Nocturnus, set for CD release on October 28th, 2025, through Rune Serpent Europa. The new video includes visuals from the 1922 silent film Häxan, which enhances the eerie and occult vibes of the song. The CD version of the album will be limited to 500 copies and will come with a 4-page booklet.
The band shares their thoughts on the track and video, explaining that “The Dark Priests” is inspired by a scene from Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut,” aiming to create a dark nightmare experience for listeners. The music video showcases the latter part of the track and features footage from the silent film Häxan, reinforcing the track’s thematic elements. According to Kathodos, Parasomnia: Pavor Nocturnus is designed to take listeners on a journey through strange dreams, offering a mix of confusion, darkness, beauty, fear, and strangeness. The album incorporates hypnotic drones, cryptic lyrics, and underlying meanings to create a unique listening experience.
Initially conceived in 2019 as an “experiment in darkness” by the sole creator, also known as Kathodos, the project faced challenges in the creative process but finally completed the album in early 2024. Vocalist and guitarist Lavinia joined the project in late 2023. Kathodos operates as a studio-only project and does not perform live, although a second album is already underway.
The CD version of Parasomnia: Pavor Nocturnus is currently available for pre-order through The Circle Music. The album promises a sequence of dark dreams and haunting melodies, perfect for fans of experimental ritual dark ambient music.
