Winn-Dixie in Chelsea to be replaced by new ALDI store opening this month

ALDI is set to open its new location in Chelsea this month, taking over the former Winn-Dixie that closed in March. The grand opening of the new ALDI store at 150 Chelsea Corners will feature several exciting giveaways for customers on October 30th.

The first 100 customers to visit the new ALDI will receive a Golden Ticket worth up to $100, as well as a free bag of ALDI goodies. Additionally, all customers will receive a free ALDI shopping tote while supplies last. There is also an opportunity for customers to enter and win a $500 ALDI gift card during the grand opening event.

This transition from Winn-Dixie to ALDI is part of a larger move by the German multinational discount supermarket chain to expand its presence in the Southeast. In 2023, ALDI acquired around 400 Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s Supermarket locations to reach its goal of having 2,400 stores nationwide by the end of 2025. While some of the acquired locations will retain the Winn-Dixie name, others, like the Chelsea store, are being converted to ALDI.

The Chelsea store joins two other former Winn-Dixie locations in the Birmingham area that have become ALDI stores – the Morgan Road Winn-Dixie in Bessemer and the Center Point Road Winn-Dixie in Pinson. In contrast, Winn-Dixie recently announced the closure of three stores in the Birmingham Metro Area, located in Trussville, Fultondale, and Jasper. These stores will be transitioning into Food City grocery stores.
