Balming Tiger and Yaeji collaborate on energetic double single “wo ai ni / break it even” – watch
One of the most highly anticipated collaborations of 2025 has finally arrived as Balming Tiger and Yaeji release their dual single ‘wo ai ni / break it even’. This dynamic partnership merges the distinct alt, K-pop sound of Balming Tiger with Yaeji’s dance and electronic music to produce two standout tracks that are both infectious and hard-hitting.
The announcement of this duo single came directly from Yaeji during their performance at the Busan International Rock Festival. Given their mutual admiration for each other’s work, the collaboration was a surprise to many yet seemed like a natural progression. The connection between the artists began while collaborating on HYUKOH’s Oh Hyuk, and their bond only strengthened over time. Inspired by their lives in Seoul and New York, the creative process emphasized the significance of working together in person, sharing experiences, and perspectives rather than facing the barriers that come with working remotely.
As Balming Tiger and Yaeji collaborated on the tracks, they drew inspiration from their surroundings and personal experiences. Sharing moments like exploring Nakwon Arcade, discussing at vintage audio shops, and enjoying local cuisine like kimbap and noodles sparked ideas for their music. Additionally, spending time at Yaeji’s home studio, witnessing rain showers over her terrace, provided a unique and nurturing environment for creativity.
‘wo ai ni’, meaning “I love you”, embodies a romantic and dreamy essence that encapsulates the feelings of falling in love and surrendering to its warmth. The track beautifully conveys love as a universal language by featuring various languages in its lyrics, showcasing the universality of love. Directed by Jan’ Qui, the music video cleverly incorporates fan participation for the first time, bringing the song’s message to life in an engaging and heartwarming way.
On the other hand, ‘break it even’ captures the essence of autumn with its cool and laid-back vibe. Drawing inspiration from the industrial landscapes of Brooklyn, the track reflects on the importance of genuine human connections in fostering understanding. Together, ‘wo ai ni / break it even’ represents the perfect fusion of Balming Tiger’s innovative creativity and Yaeji’s genre-blending vision. This dual single celebrates the power of connection, authenticity, and artistic chemistry, reminding listeners that music has the ability to transcend barriers, languages, and distances.
