Indie rock band MAITLAND delves into emotional contrasts with new album “Catharsis”
Münster-based indie rock band MAITLAND has recently released a new video for their song “Catharsis,” a track that unravels itself slowly, layer by layer, revealing its depth and emotion. The song is a precursor to the band’s debut album, “Falling into Place,” set to release on November 7 through My Ruin Records. “Catharsis” showcases the band’s unique blend of moody indie pop, post-rock grandeur, and hints of heavier rock influences.
Describing their upcoming album, MAITLAND shared that “Falling into Place” captures the band’s full sonic range, from energetic and danceable tracks to moments of somber pop and expansive post-rock soundscapes. The album is characterized by contrasts – melodic yet raw, expansive yet intimate – elements that shine through in songs like “Catharsis,” where restrained vocals and shimmering guitars build up to a dramatic release.
The DIY spirit is evident throughout the production of the nine-track debut album, with contributions from Pogo McCartney (Messer) and Peter Lagoda, and mixing and mastering done by Role at Tonmeisterei in Oldenburg. The visual aesthetics of the album are just as intentional, with cover art designed by Studio Superkolor featuring evocative imagery by photographer Moritz Hagedorn, who also worked on the visuals for “Catharsis,” capturing the same emotional complexity found in the music.
Earlier this year, MAITLAND previewed the album with the track “Einstein-Rosen Bridge,” noted for its moody atmosphere and hints of The Smiths mixed with impactful songwriting. This blend of drive and melancholy sets the stage for the full release, described by the band as a bold introduction filled with contrast, cohesion, and depth.
The band’s upcoming album, “Falling into Place,” promises to showcase their versatility, spanning from indie dance rhythms to post-rock expansiveness. “Catharsis” serves as the emotional center of the album, offering a glimpse into the intersection of these diverse musical worlds.
