Limp Bizkit Bassist and Co-Founder Sam Rivers Dies at Age 48
Metal band Limp Bizkit has mourned the loss of its co-founder and bassist, Sam Rivers, who has tragically passed away at the age of 48. Though the cause of death remains undisclosed at this time, it is known that Rivers had a history of alcohol-related liver issues.
The official Instagram account of Limp Bizkit released a heartfelt statement to announce the sad news. The band’s message fondly remembers Rivers:
“In Loving Memory of Our Brother, Sam Rivers.
Today we lost our brother. Our bandmate. Our heartbeat. Sam Rivers wasn’t just our bass player – he was pure magic. The pulse beneath every song, the calm in the chaos, the soul in the sound. From the first time we played together, Sam brought a light and a rhythm that could never be replaced. His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart enormous. We shared so many moments — wild ones, quiet ones, beautiful ones — and every one of them meant more because Sam was there. He was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of human. A true legend of legends. And his spirit will live forever in every groove, every stage, every memory.”
The band members’ touching words beautifully encapsulate the impact Rivers had on them and their music. Fred, Wes, John & DJ Lethal expressed their everlasting love and gratitude to Sam. They promised to carry his memory with them always and wished him eternal peace: “We love you, Sam. We’ll carry you with us, always. Rest easy, brother. Your music never ends.”
Limp Bizkit’s journey began in 1994 when Rivers co-founded the band with his childhood friend John Otto and close friend Fred Durst. Wes Borland, who would frequently join and depart from the group, completed the lineup. The band remains active today, regularly engaging in tours and live performances, keeping its music and spirit alive.
Sam Rivers was more than a bassist; he was an integral part of Limp Bizkit, contributing his magic to the band’s music. His legacy will endure through his extraordinary talent and spirit that touched the lives of his bandmates and fans alike. While the music world mourns the loss of a remarkable musician, memories of Sam’s unforgettable presence and unparalleled contribution will forever resonate within the music of Limp Bizkit.
