Local Pittsburgh band, The Redlines, in the spotlight
For the last 13 years, The Redlines, a band based in Pittsburgh, have been making music together. They are finally embarking on their first official tour this week, with stops in several states. The band has experienced lineup changes over the years, including six drummers, which often leads to comparisons with the heavy metal mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap.” Bassist Tony Vinski humorously notes that while the comparisons are frequent, all of their drummers are still alive.
To celebrate the tour, The Redlines are releasing a new single titled “Just the Way We Live,” featuring vocals by Anne Celedonia and keyboards by Chris Wood. Vinski mentions that the song was written during the COVID-19 pandemic, and although it may be a few years late, its message remains relevant in today’s political climate. The band, known for their performances in dive bars and smaller venues, has made significant connections in the music community, recording with seasoned producers and collaborating with various talented musicians.
The founding members of The Redlines include Brian Seese, Jason Lizzi, Tony Vinski, and Sam Berman. The band came together in 2011 when Brian reached out to friends to join him in creating music. After a few lineup changes and some experimentation with band names, The Redlines were officially formed. Their first “real” show took place in 2013 in New Brighton.
Regarding the origin of the band’s name, Vinski admits that they picked it after narrowing down a list of potential names and voting on the most favored option. As for their music style, The Redlines describe themselves as a loud rock band, playing live music with impactful instrumentals and memorable melodies. Their influences vary, with each band member drawing inspiration from a wide range of artists across different genres.
Throughout their journey, The Redlines have released albums like their self-titled debut in 2014 and “Paradise Vegas, Vol. 1.” Their music reflects their ever-evolving tastes and influences, ranging from Americana and indie rock to garage rock and punk. With a passion for authentic live performances and a commitment to creating music that resonates with their audience, The Redlines continue to captivate fans with their energetic shows and dynamic sound.
