Funk band Lettuce continues to cook with new album ‘Keep On’
Funk sextet Lettuce is known for dishing out their fresh, unadulterated funk, pleasing fans of all things funky, fresh, and soulful. On December 3, the band is set to release their eagerly awaited new album, ‘Cook.’ This album includes hit single “Gold Tooth,” a cover of the Keni Burke classic “Rising to the Top,” and the recently released “Breathe,” a laid-back track with a retro hip-hop vibe.
Adding to their musical menu, Lettuce has now dropped another track from the upcoming album, “Keep On,” paying homage to the Bay Area icons, Tower of Power. Emilio Castillo, the band’s leader and founding member of Tower of Power, has a co-writing credit on the song.
“We’ve always looked up to Tower of Power as legends in the funk, soul, and R&B world,” shares Lettuce. The band has even performed side by side with Tower of Power on several occasions. Drummer Adam Deitch describes “Keep On” as “A lil’ tribute to our heroes Tower of Power,” while vocalist Nigel Hall emphasizes that the song is about not missing out on good things when they come your way. Bassist Erick “Maverick” Coomes urges listeners to persevere and keep pushing forward.
Emilio Castillo also expresses his pride in being part of the creation of “Keep On,” explaining that the idea for the song stemmed from dealing with COVID-related difficulties. The result is a dynamic funk groove with soulful vocals and horn sections, giving the track a timeless quality.
In addition to their musical endeavors, Lettuce has teamed up with the nonprofit organization Music is a Language to establish a scholarship at Berklee College of Music. This scholarship will provide full tuition for a deserving student. The band will kick off fundraising efforts at their upcoming “House of Lett” shows in Denver on December 5 and 6.
Lettuce’s new album, ‘Cook,’ showcases the band’s versatility, blending funk, soul, jazz, rock, and hip-hop into a delectable musical feast. Having toured with rap icon GZA of the Wu-Tang Clan and reggae legend Ziggy Marley, the band has continued to evolve their sound while staying true to their funky roots. ‘Cook’ offers a diverse range of tracks that demonstrate the band’s growth in production and arrangements.
Outside of their music, Lettuce has also ventured into the world of wine with their Red Crush and Orange Crush wine brands. Paired with a recipe book, these wines are the band’s latest endeavors in providing well-made products that mirror their approach to music. Lettuce emphasizes the importance of quality ingredients both in their music and in their wine.
As they gear up for the release of ‘Cook,’ Lettuce has lined up an extensive tour schedule that spans the globe, reaching into 2026. In addition, the band is offering an exclusive VIP experience for fans who want to get up close and personal with the band before the show. This “Cookin’ with the Band” experience includes soundcheck viewing, setlist voting, and special merchandise.
With their new album and exciting tour plans on the horizon, Lettuce continues to serve up their signature funky sound with a side of soulful passion.
