A monumental event took place when a 500-strong rock choir gathered at the majestic Giant’s Causeway in Co Antrim. Making history, this rock choir was the first ever to capture a performance at this iconic UNESCO-listed location. The massive choir showcased their talent by singing ‘Dreams’ by The Cranberries, cementing their place as the largest choir to grace the Causeway with their musical prowess.

Rock Choir, the leading contemporary rock choir experience in the UK, has become a powerhouse in over 400 towns and communities nationwide. Originally founded in 2005 by Caroline Redman Lusher MBE, the choir attracts a diverse range of members who bond over rehearsals, social engagements, and group trips. In Ireland, Rock Choir Ireland was established just three years ago, amassing a membership of around 1,000 in Belfast and the neighboring areas.

Celebrating its three-year anniversary, Rock Choir Ireland launched a collaboration with the NI Mental Health Arts Festival. The annual festival, focusing on mental well-being, aims to tackle stigma while fostering connections through the arts throughout the year. Co-Chair Noelle McAlinden expressed gratitude for the choir’s dedication, emphasizing the impact of communal singing in promoting well-being, creativity, and inclusivity.

The choir leaders and members delivered a heartfelt performance that deeply resonated with attendees at the stunning Co Antrim site. Five hundred voices harmonized seamlessly with the picturesque backdrop of the Giant’s Causeway, creating an almost transcendent experience. Choir leader Clare Galway articulated the sentiment best, describing the performance as a powerful, prideful connection to Northern Ireland’s musical heritage and cultural landscape. Despite an ethereal ambiance, the clouds parted, the sun illuminated, and the choir reveled in the magic of their musical endeavor.

Edward Mason, General Manager at the Giant’s Causeway, was moved by the choir’s rendition of ‘Dreams’ by The Cranberries, expressing how the performance left the staff in awe. The enchanting atmosphere enveloping the Causeway during the choir’s soulful delivery was indeed nothing short of magical. The choir’s impact lies not just in its musicality but also in fostering creativity, self-expression, and community engagement in the realm of mental health and well-being.
