Video aims to assist students in managing school bus anxiety

Two Northern Ireland special schools have launched a video to help ease school bus anxiety among pupils. Featuring students and staff from Rathore and Parkview Special Schools, the video aims to prepare children for bus travel and train them to stay safe while on board. The film showcases the drivers and escorts who accompany children with special educational needs as they journey to school.

The launch event at Rathore School in Newry saw EA Chief Executive Richard Pengelly praising the video as a valuable tool to enable children and families to feel more prepared for bus travel. Rathore School Principal Caroline Currie expressed pride in their inclusion, highlighting the importance of reinforcing safe travel practices among students and supporting them in making informed decisions.

Colin Ward, Principal of Parkview School, commended the pupils for their participation, underscoring the impact it had on boosting their confidence. Ward emphasized the dedication and professionalism of EA Transport Service staff in ensuring a safe and positive travel experience for all children with special needs. The video offers an opportunity for children to address the anxieties associated with transitions and transportation, empowering them to contribute positively to the video.

Following the event, Richard Pengelly recognized the efforts of the schools and expressed gratitude for their assistance in creating an educational video that aims to alleviate fears about bus travel among students.
