“Katy Guillen & The Drive release new album in Falmouth”
issing something, then create it. This philosophy drove singer and guitarist Katy Guillen to establish her all-female indie rock band, Katy Guillen & The Drive, set to perform in Falmouth on October 25th.
Originating from Kansas City, Missouri, Guillen recently wrapped up a series of shows on the West Coast supporting her latest album, “Make That Sound.” Alongside her drummer and life partner, Stephanie Williams, she is gearing up to hit the road again, with their next stop at Grumpy’s Pub in Falmouth.
With a focus on empowering women in the music industry, Katy Guillen & The Drive collaborated with female producer Megan McCormick in Nashville for their newest album. Guillen initially formed an all-female ensemble unintentionally but noticed the impact it had on women in the audience.
“We started to really enjoy that type of energy on stage and noticed at shows young girls coming up or older women coming over and saying ‘I love the all-female energy,’” Guillen shared. “It’s just a different type of thing.”
“Make That Sound” marks the group’s second full-length album, following their 2022 release, “Another One Gained,” and a couple of EPs. The album blends bluesy riff-rock with dreamy indie pop, showcasing their versatility and musical range. Guillen pays homage to the influential women in her life through the songs, including a heartfelt tribute to her late dog in “Goodbye Charlie.”
For Guillen, it is crucial that her band and their music create a positive impact on women and the community, especially inspiring young girls. She expressed, “I think like it’s cool for them to be able to see an all-women rock band that likes to shred. We really do love to rock out. I feel like it’s something that I wish I had more of when I was coming up. All you can do is leave as positive a mark as possible no matter what ends up happening.”
The upcoming performance at Grumpy’s Pub in Falmouth promises an evening filled with powerful and energetic music. Katy Guillen & The Drive aim to deliver an unforgettable experience, showcasing their passion for music and dedication to empowering women in the industry.
