Type O Negative working on upcoming live album featuring recordings with late frontman Peter Steele
Type O Negative is currently putting together a new live album featuring recordings of their late frontman, Peter Steele. Guitarist Kenny Hickey has revealed that the band is in the midst of the mixing process and working on the artwork for this upcoming release.
The new album will serve as a tribute to Peter Steele, who passed away in 2010, marking the first official music release since his death. Steele was known for his distinctive bass-heavy singing style, which became synonymous with the band’s unique sound. Standing at an imposing 6’7″, his commanding voice and presence solidified his status as a standout figure in the music industry.
Formed in Brooklyn in 1990, Type O Negative consisted of Steele on bass and vocals, Hickey on guitar, Josh Silver on keyboards, and Sal Abruscato on drums before Johnny Kelly took over. Their breakthrough album, Bloody Kisses, propelled them to fame in 1993, followed by successful releases such as October Rust, World Coming Down, and Life Is Killing Me.
Prior to his time with Type O Negative, Steele played in bands Fallout and Carnivore. Born as Petrus T. Ratajczyk in Brooklyn, his life was tragically cut short at the age of 48 due to an infection. Despite his untimely passing, his legacy continues to resonate with fans and fellow musicians alike.
While the band plans to honor Steele’s memory through their music, keyboardist Josh Silver is unlikely to join them in this endeavor, as he has retired from music and now works as a paramedic in New York City. However, the remaining members are dedicated to keeping the spirit of Type O Negative alive and preserving their iconic sound for both longtime fans and a new generation of music enthusiasts.
The forthcoming live album promises to be a significant addition to the band’s discography, providing listeners with a glimpse into the magic that defined Type O Negative during metal’s golden era. Fans can anticipate the release of this album and show their support by purchasing the band’s music and merchandise from their official website.
